Mariella McKinley

An awarded glass artist who specialises in blown and coldworked glass.

From an early age, Mariella has been interested in art and design and has enjoyed making things. She is now a practising artist and specialises in blown and coldworked glass.

Mariella completed her Diploma of Arts - Visual Arts, majoring in painting at Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE in 2002. She went on to complete her Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours), majoring in glass at Monash University in 2006.

After graduating, Mariella worked for two years as an Associate in the glass studio at JamFactory Contemporary Craft and Design in Adelaide, and for one year as an assistant to Ben Edols and Kathy Elliott in Sydney.

During her training, Mariella gained valuable skills and developed her own artistic style along with a true passion for the glass medium.

Mariella's work is finely crafted with attention to detail, and includes both functional and decorative pieces. She is attracted to colour, pattern, texture and form, and often explores these elements in her work.

Mariella has received numerous awards, including the Italian Centre Design Award and the Corning Incorporated Foundation Award, both of which enabled her to travel internationally to further her training in glass. She exhibits her work in galleries throughout Australia.

Having grown up in the area, Mariella is pleased to be a part of the artistic community at Montsalvat. She uses her studio there to develop new ideas, experiment with coldworking techniques, and create unique works of art in glass.
