EXHIBITION: Merilee Bennett - A Thousand Faces of the Feminine

This exhibition and accompanying workshop invites viewers and participants to explore the sacred feminine through the ritual of artmaking. A Thousand Faces of the Feminine features hand-stiched, painted and beaded wisdom dolls.

Merilee Bennett is an award-winning filmmaker and visual artist who has had a long-standing interest in archetypes and the way in which symbols, motifs and the unconscious intersect with our everyday lives. This exhibition continues her investigation into ancient Palaeolithic and Neolithic forms of the “Goddess”, as well as myths and fairytales, mystical revelation, dreams and the natural world.

“Living in a highly individualistic culture, it’s easy to feel alone. Archetypes remind us that our experiences are universal and shared. In archetypes we find stories that underpin our experiences and make our lives richer, more meaningful and more connected to others.”

To accompany this exhibition, Bennett will lead a two-day workshop in March. The workshop is designed to explore archetypes and life-narratives and will give participants an opportunity to create their own textile figures and to undertake a reflective writing piece.
