Take Me To The River is a reflection of the moods of the Yarra river and the
surrounding landscape over the last year.
A sense of place and time ensues. It’s a pleasure and a comfort of the familiar. Walking
trails, well worn. The colours and moods, ever-changing in presentation throughout the
seasons of a year.
The areas depicted follow the Yarra river as it winds its way through the suburbs of
Eltham and Templestowe. There are walking tracks along both sides of the river which
meander from Eltham Lower Park to Petty’s Orchard, Griffith Park to Sweeny’s Lane and
This body of work draws from everyday experiences in and around Eltham which feature
in Kate’s interdisciplinary arts practice.
Kate Cross has been painting at Montsalvat for the last two years and is currently
attending David Moore’s figure classes.
