EXHIBITION: Zsofi Samu - Exploring Nature(s), featuring collaborative work with Riccardo Armillei

This art collection is the first major solo exhibition of Zsofi Samu (Hungarian textile artist) in Melbourne. Here Zsofi challenges herself moving from depicting nature and wilderness, towards a more conceptual, philosophical, and even political expression. The encounter with Riccardo Armillei (Italian sculptor and academic in sociology) gave birth to a creative partnership, where passion for social justice and deep empathy for asylum seekers, were combined with the love of nature and the use of natural materials. Their personal journeys merged into each other, with this exhibition representing the climax of a reciprocal enrichment. 'Exploring Nature(s)' will thus examine the way art developed from the representation of nature to its conceptual expression, from the material world to the condition of being human. Within this context, Nature becomes a powerful tool to repair the wounds of hardship and displacement.
