ENCORE EXHIBITION: Matin and Rasul Family - Chain of Events

Artist Statement – Matin

“Matin is an Iranian-Australian artist with a background in sport, music, and cookery. Matin holds a bachelor’s degree in sports and physical education from Iran, has recorded three albums as a composer and musician and is a qualified commercial chef. Throughout these varied life experiences Matin has maintained a consistent engagement with the visual arts through personal drawing as a pastime and hobby. He joined art college in Melbourne to grow his skills and became a professional artist. Matin held group exhibitions and he won a traditional media award.

He works figuratively in charcoal, oil painting, acrylic and ink, with energetic brushstrokes contrasting against carefully rendered details. His current body of work explores the themes of freedom and confidence and comes from Matin’s unique life experience as both an Australian and a Persian.”

Artist Statement - Rasul Family

“My woodwork for the past 50 years has been feeding me financially, physically and spiritually.

Being creative is in my genes.

Weaving colourful Persian rugs with my mother when I was young gave me an engine to drive me happily for the rest of my life.

Migrating to Australia and seeing amazing and different colours of wood put me in where I wanted to be, the rest is history and for you to see.”
