The Resident’s Gallery
2nd of February - 26th of February 2023
The exhibition can be viewed during Montsalvat opening hours:
Thursday - Sunday 10:00am - 4:00pm
The approach home after a long commute consistently inspires.
As traffic lights cease and the vista unfolds there is a sense of both animation and relief as the workday is finally shed and left behind.
This exhibition is inspired by the postcode 3097, specifically the drive through Kangaroo Ground and onto The Bend of Islands.
It aims to demonstrate the alchemy between what is seen, the positive physiological and psychological response it evokes, and its transformation, through the mediums of oil paint and pyrography (wood-burning), onto wood.
Each of the images intend to capture a snapshot of this journey which is both deeply familiar and repetitive, yet ever-changing according to the weather, the season, and the time of day. Each offer a portal beyond an obvious representation, evolving from a combination of inner, intuitive and emotional responses, inviting the viewer to share in this unique and beautiful slice of Nillumbik.
