Solar Pinhole Camera Installation by Dylan Negri

Photographic Artist Dylan Negri is a South African immigrant and childhood brain cancer survivor.

Dylan’s highly experimental photographs create feelings of wonder and awe. His work explores the convergence of manmade and natural image-making techniques. He explores a wide variety of different photographic techniques to achieve abstract images. Dylan also uses images to communicate difficult issues to help create understanding.

Dylan has lived and worked in Melbourne Australia since 2006. He holds a Diploma in Photography (2023) and has participated in multiple solo and group exhibitions.

Artist Statement

I am the current artist in residence at Edendale Farm, exploring sustainable photographic image making. I have been fortunate to be given the opportunity to do some experimentation at Montsalvat where I have installed various solar pinhole cameras, all made from recycled materials and filled with old expired photographic paper.

These solar cans will be left up for anywhere between 24 hours to 6 months. Solar photography is an experimental process that captures the sun's path over time.

I will also be sourcing some organic materials to make sustainable developers and capture some pinhole images of the architecture and surrounds.

My Instagram is @dylannegriphotography if you would like to follow my progress.
