EXHIBITION: Lizzie Hall - Locupleto (Encore)

About the Exhibition

The exhibition is titled ‘Locupleto’, which means ‘to enrich’ in Latin.

The theme is supposed to capture the particular feeling of this place. Upon first walking into Montsalvat, it felt like stepping inside a precious, magical dwelling filled with memory. It was like stepping into a dream, and I experienced a stirring feeling in my soul that I believe CS Lewis describes perfectly in the second book of ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’.

“At the name of Aslan each one of the children felt something jump inside. Peter felt suddenly brave and adventurous. Susan felt as if some delicious smell or some delightful strain of music had just floated by her. And Lucy got the feeling you have when you wake up in the morning and realize that it is the beginning of the holidays or the beginning of Summer”.

- CS Lewis, ‘The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe’.

I created these paintings to try to capture the enchantment of this hidden gem in Eltham. The fruit symbolise richness and zest, the fireplace portrays warmth and slumber, the portraits portray the curiosity and courage of the human spirit. The lion portrays Aslan.
