Visit Montsalvat and gain a rare glimpse inside an artist’s creative process! Visit open artist studios, discover one-of-a-kind artworks and engage with practicing artists. Bring your family and friends for a picnic and enjoy the artist designed landscape of Montsalvat in the springtime.

Workshops

Life Drawing
10.15am - 12.15pm and 1.45pm - 3.45pm, Justus’ Studio
$29 per person
Draw alongside fellow artists at this traditional life drawing session at Montsalvat! This is the perfect opportunity if you're looking to try something new, meet like-minded people or to simply enjoy the practice of life drawing in a beautiful heritage space. All skill levels are welcome.
Live nude model - suitable for ages 16 and over.
Included: Entry into Montsalvat for full day and basic materials (butchers paper, charcoal, easel and drawing board).

Beginners Painting Workshop with Jo Canning
10.30am - 12pm, The Artist Coop (in studio)
$30 per person
Included: Entry into Montsalvat for full day, all materials and guidance by artist Jo Canning.
Suitable for ages 16 and over.

Contemporary Collage Workshop with Rochelle Van Der Merwe
11am – 2pm, Great Hall
$75 per person
Included: Entry into Montsalvat for full day, all tools, guidance from artist Rochelle Van Der Merwe, plus a finely curated & ever-evolving selection of paper-based materials including vintage children's storybooks, art books and more!
Suitable for ages 8 years and over and must be able to safely use scissors. Children (under 12 years of age) must be supervised at all times by a responsible adult.

Clay Talk

Visit Clay Talk to meet talented ceramic tutors, bring the children for a casual ‘come and try’ activity and learn more about regular workshops and classes.

Event Information

Conditions of entry:
BYO picnic rugs and low chairs are permitted.
BYO food is permitted.
Strictly no BYO alcohol permitted.
Strictly no pets permitted due to the birdlife at Montsalvat. Please do not touch or feed the birds.
Children (under 12 years of age) must be supervised at all times by a responsible adult.
Please take your rubbish away with you or place in the bins. Help us look after our environment.
Please do not touch artwork or outdoor sculptures.

Access:
Please take care and watch your step on gravel pathways, uneven heritage pathways, steps, stairways, and overhead archways. Please contact us on montsalvat@montsalvat.com.au before the day for more information about accessibility options.

Flat, supportive footwear highly recommended and dress for the weather conditions.

Transport:
Public transport, uber or carpooling is highly recommended.
Free shuttle bus from Eltham Train Station to Montsalvat between 10am - 4pm.
Montsalvat has limited free carparking available onsite. Parking is available on nearby Metery Rd, a short distance from Montsalvat. Please do not park your car on Hillcrest Avenue as it is highly likely you will obstruct neighbouring properties.

Montsalvat can be reached from public transport bus #582 which leaves from Eltham Train Station. Disembark at the Rockliffe St/Mt Pleasant Rd stop and walk a short distance along Hillcrest Ave to Montsalvat. Eltham Station is on the Hurstbridge train line.
