JAZZ CONCERT: JACKIE BORNSTEIN QUARTET – WOMEN IN JAZZ

Montsalvat is delighted to be celebrating International Jazz Day with Jackie Bornstein, with her program of international jazz all composed by women, sung in different languages! Jackie is one of Melbourne’s most captivating jazz, bossa nova and chanson singers. Featuring the powerful vocals of Jackie Bornstein, world-class pianist Mark Fitzgibbon, rising jazz star Yael Zamir on flute, and the masterful bassist Ben Hanlon.

‘An enchanting vocalist and captivating storyteller.’ - Australian Jazz

Known for her rich tones and ability to get to the heart of a tune, Jackie’s performances champion the music and stories of great female jazz composers, revealing hidden chapters of history to the delight of modern listeners.

Marking the release of her album 'Women in Jazz: An Invitation to Freedom', this concert will celebrate the moving stories and songs of remarkable women in jazz. Together with her exceptional band of rising and esteemed jazz artists, Jackie will share a selection of swing, bossa nova and poetry-driven songs by female composers from across the globe. From the swinging 'Pick Yourself Up', to the emotive 'La Vie en Rose', the concert program will include a beautiful mix of jazz classics and lesser known gems by diverse composers including Peggy Lee, Billie Holiday, Edith Piaf, Dolores Duran, Consuelo Velazquez, Maria Grever, Dorothy Fields, Jackie Bornstein and more.

All proceeds from the concert will go to the restoration of Lily’s Cottage, one of the original Montsalvat buildings.
