Frühling is the German word for springtime.
After a trip to Germany last year Janine wanted to capture the bountiful flowers, life and greenery that was so different to her home in Australia.
This collection is a joyful journey which asks the viewer to pause and appreciate nature from the expansive views of Heligoland to the tiniest plant growing between cobblestones.
Through various media the artist has explored the light of a perfect spring day, the colours and textures of the subjects and the atmosphere of a beautiful flourishing land awakened after winter.
Janine Durston is a local artist and illustrator for the City of Greater Dandenong. She takes great pride in her role as a local artist and the opportunity to share her work with the community and throughout Victoria. Her work is inspired by natural found objects, details found in nature and what nature discards. Her vision is to spark curiosity in others for nature's beauty and intricacies.
She enjoys contrasting sharp illustration with organic fluid lines and abstracted backgrounds. Colour plays an important role in the work due to a background in colour consultancy. Her willingness to work in mixed media adds further depth to her illustrative work, allowing the subject matter to inform the medium choices without traditional limitations. Janine’s style is often fluid and organic with movement across the page or canvas, reminiscent of Art Nouveau and her subjects are often chosen for their symbolism.
